Mor-Ryde Jack Lift Hook for Avion Travel Trailers

Here is our video on how to use the original Mor-Ryde Bottle Jack Lift Plate.

This original piece of equipment has become quite rare to find because along the way subsequent owners did not know what that somewhat rusted, odd shaped thing was. Lucky for us, our previous owner inherited his trailer from his Uncle who was an old-timer and had owned our trailer for over 20 years taking her to Florida annually and also to Alaska and California.  He knew the value of having this little piece of metal to ensure no damage would be done to the Mor-Ryde suspension in case of a need for a tire change.

We hope this video will assist those who have this equipment, maybe packed way low in one of the storage bins on your trailer.  This coming winter, Kevin plans to get these replicated and we should have them for sale.  Let us know if you are interested and we will follow up with you when availability and pricing becomes known.

    Yes I have the hook for changing a tire but I have the chain in case you’re spare is flat. You also don’t show the wood wedges that also come with the trailer when it was new. If you’re going to show about the system please show all of the tools that came with it. I have all 3 If I need them.

      Curtis,
      We do appreciate you taking the time to respond to our video. You are correct there were other original pieces (chains and blocks) that evidently were included originally however those are pieces that over successive owners may have or could have been easily replaced with off the rack stuff versus the original lift plate which had specific design function. Lucky you to have all the original pieces! We only have the plate and chains. There are many folks in Avion Land like yourself that have far more years of experience than we do but folks we met recently at the Silver Avion Fellowship Rally asked us to specifically do a show and tell about the plate since many had not seen. In review of our video Kevin does show our wood blocks under jack and references the chains to support axel when changing tire. The full process of tire changing was not our intent. Perhaps you or someone with all original equipment would make that video at some point. That would be great. Be well and hope to see you on the road sometime! – Luisa Sherman.

      Curtis, I’m not sure how to contact you except through this “Leave a Reply”. Could you please take a photo of the wood wedges; in fact all three. I have the chain, but didn’t understand how to use it until the recent SAF Rally in Elkhart. I’d like to make the wedges to the original dimensions just to have them, so measurements would be helpful. I also was unaware of the hook until the rally and it looks like it would be good to have and could be made, if someone is not already doing that. Thanks a lot, Walt

        Walt, this is not Curtis Parish’s website if that is who you are referring to. We are Kevin and Luisa Sherman.

        Curtis is on some of the Avion Facebook owner groups so you could post to him there.

        We did not have any wood wedges with ur more Ryde jack hook so would also be interested to learn more about them too.

        I’m aware that this is not Curtis’ web site and apologize for leaving my post in a somewhat public manner; perhaps you can delete it, along with this one. However, I was hoping that he had requested to be notified in the event of a new comment. Unfortunately, I don’t participate on FaceBook or other social media, so can’t reach him that way. However, now that I know that there was such a thing as the wooden wedges, I’ll pursue it as best I can.

        Elkhart was our first SAF rally and we enjoyed it. We’ve had our 1975 28′ Le Grande for 5 years now but never seen that many Avions in one place. We were at the end of a 3,000 mile trip when we got to Elkhart, having learned about it from another Avion owner while in northern MI.

        We could not get to the SAF this year but attended for the first time last year and had a great time too.

        We also went to a Tin Can Tourist vintage rally in th NY finger lake region last sep and will again this year. There were five Avions including us. It was fun being around all other sorts of vintage trailers too. Tin can tourist club has a lot to offer!

        Thanks for forwarding. My wife also found him on FB and sent a message, so hopefully he’ll respond to one or both. Re: the MOR/ryde jack adapter, was that original with your trailer? Someone passed around one at the rally and I got the impression that you or someone else were making and selling them. I took photos and dimensions, but might like to buy instead of make if they are being produced.

        We go to one or two vintage rallies each year, partly because that’s how we were introduced to vintage trailers. We don’t decorate the way most do, but we enjoy the atmosphere and have developed friends and since our trailer was all original (until we started fixing the problems) it had a certain interest. Elkhart was completely different in that it presented an opportunity to see Avions dense-packed and talk to owners about specific problems and fixes. More ‘my kinda rally’.

        Yes ours was original Jack hook for our trailer.

        Avion rally are unique in that regard of lots of good specific info sharing.

        Wish someone would start video taping the tech talks. Dean will sadly not be around for ever and he has so much knowledge!

        Hope to see you again on the road or at next year’s SAF. Let me know ehn u get info on those wood blocks for use with the jack hook

    There is a machinist in Wisconsin who will make you a jack hook! He has done this for several people and has the specs. He will charge you $100 which includes shipping (you have to send him a check). Here are his details:
