TX-FAM Campground “Fort Bliss”

This was a TERRIFIC FAM camp! This FAM camp is actually one of those NOT directly situated in the base proper, so check in is somewhat easier. You will need all accepted ID and register in at the Welcome Desk. This is a FCFS FAM camp in other words no advance reservations. They do suggest, and we did, call them in the morning of our arrival day to see what type of availability they had for us. At the time of our call around 9 AM they had 8 sites available. We arrived on a Tuesday in DECEMBER by 2 pm and we had our choice of 6 different sites. We did see more coming in later around 5-7 pm so it is best to get there at earliest check in time possible for best selection of sites if there are multiple sites open. Below is the check in Welcome Center. It is staffed but only I believe till 4 PM. Parking to get into the Welcome Center is tight so go slow and to the left as you enter the campground gate. Signage is pretty good. See their website for current details.

This was a lovely FAM camp. We had site 69 which we chose due to being on end next to one of the two modern bath houses and laundry. NOTE: The camp does border a very busy highway and the noise of traffic is near constant but our site was half way into the park and surrounded by some trees so we did not find the noise an issue at all especially even when going to sleep at night. We recommend NOT taking a site near the rows near highway wall. We were in the middle and right side of the park. Traffic in the area is intense so time your area site seeing and base visit to off commuter rush times!

Below are some random shots around the campground. The Family Center with living room, huge kitchen you can use, games and exercise area was spotless and beautifully decorated.

The base itself is about a 15 minute ride due SE with traffic. Being unhitched made the base entry that much easier. Their food court at the BX is amazing and nicest we have experienced. Below is our view from campground of the mountain range to the west. Nice sunsets! There are also a few photos of on base.

The FAM camp has paved sites with nice concrete pad picnic table and patio areas which are very large. The grounds are well kept. There is a quick mart opposite the park entrance that is an easy walk. The park is well lit, kept tidy and staff is friendly. We highly recommend. We did get a slight discount using our NPS Lifetime Senior Pass, our overnight rate was $36 with FHU.

Check out our site 69! We loved it. We had a nice “patio side yard” because we were next to the second, smaller bath house. The bath house has separate 3 piece private lockable bathrooms so you have literally your own homelike bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. The laundry was super cheap at $1 per wash and $1 per dry! WOW!

We would absolutely plan to stay here again especially if traveling off I-10 its a must do!! Their Website

Not sure if you qualify to camp at military FAM Camp campgrounds in the USA?? Check out our FAM Camp page for more details and info links.
