Louisiana-Our 49th!! +Bogue Chitto S.P. Campground Review.

We did it! Last month we completed our 49th state with at least 1 overnight camping (that’s our rule).

LA welcome center on I-10

While camp hosting this winter in SW Georgia we built in a 1 week vacation in January to cinch up our final 3 states and to celebrate Kevin’s 🎂 . It has been a nice respite and it’s also a way to rotate the tires and get the trailer builds flowing too during our 6 mo stay in GA.

While in LA we spent 3 nights at Bogue Chitto State Park in the northeastern lower corner of LA in the town of Franklinton. It is a bit off the beaten track and in hindsight staying in a state park around New Orleans would have saved us about 100 extra miles. Oh well. Next time when we are headed west!

Bogue Chitto SP is huge, over 1300 acres and growing. The setting is woods along the Bogue Chitto River. They are well known for their Disc Golf course and amazing bike Pump tract and miles and miles of mountain bike trails, as well as various bike track features, jumps, banks, ramps and more.  There is a well stocked small camp store and the town center is about 8 miles north with all retail and services.

We were supposed to be camping in site 105 by the river with a view of the water (water and electric hookup only) but the river had other ideas recently. We got a call 4 days ago saying the entire lowland section was flooded and they offered us a FHU paved site in the upland newer section at no additional charge.

BTW LA state parks offer 15% discount to ALL seniors 55 yrs and older regardless of home state and also same to Veterans. Nice!!

We enjoyed our level FHU site 23 though some offered a little more privacy buffer in that loop.

Site 23. Not down by the water but backed into woods, cement pad, FHU.

The bath house was good with they type of set up with your own private shower, sink and toilet in a lockable room. We took advantage of that and the building also had only one W/D too ($1.75 each w/d). Inside the laundry room was a great book exchange too which Luise took advantage of.

The Equestrian Campground in the park is the best we have ever seen! Pavillion, new bath house, nice sites, corrals, and more!

We honestly did not see a whole lot to do in this area besides what is available in the state park itself. When we come through LA again we will most likely stay around the New Orleans area (we hear the KOA is good, safe and has a shuttle into downtown for a $) or further along the coastline. Hauling up north to Bogue Chitto from I-10 was a bit of a haul.

DO NOT BE THESE GUYS! Their blazing lights were on all night. It looked like an airport in the middle of the woods! This was taken from our site 4 sites away. I can not imagine if they were right next to us!

PS: we did buy ourselves a Mardi Gras King Cake at the local supermarket- when in Rome…..do as the Romans! hahaha!!

Have fun, stay safe and enjoy your travels!
