As part of our stationary winter months’ punch list of routine maintenance….

It was CLEAN THE BATH AND KITCHEN SINK PIPES AND TRAPS yesterday and today!

Fun is!!!

Total grossness! Grease. Yuck and more yuck!

Our kitchen sink drain pipe. Yucky grease build up!

WHAT MAKES IT WORSE….is that we pride ourselves on being very diligent in not (as much at all possible) to allow foodstuffs, cooking grease etc down the kitchen sink. See our prior post on our tips and tricks for holding tank maintenance and care. https://thepewterpalace.com/2023/12/17/fish-in-my-grey-tank/

(see pics of kitchen pipes below! OMG!)

In truth we have owned this 1987 32S Avion for 3.5 yrs now and this is the first time Kevin actually disassembled the PVC piping that the PO had installed with new sinks (we figure he did in about 2018). We have done other topical treatment like Cascade dishwasher liquid and super hot water, etc down the drains. Not sure if PO had ever done this big clean either and he was essentailly FT living too- but here we are!

They are spic n span clean now! And this WILL become part of our annual maintenance punch list. Also makes for a good time to purge some never used stuff from cabinets.

Squeaky clean now!

BE HONEST….WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME you took apart your under counter pipes and did a super thorough cleaning out??

TIP:always take photos of the plumbing set up BEFORE you disassemble!! 😉

The flex pipe was an install by our trailers previous owner. It’s working fine, but at some point we will probably switch it to straight PVC just for fewer surface area for grease and grime build up potential.

Yeah not the most fun thing to do but guess what….we don’t shovel or plow snow, we don’t rake leaves, we don’t pump septic systems, we dont climb on roofs to dislodge ice build up, we dont clean out gutters, we don’t replace or seal driveways anymore either!!!

Hope this article helps a bit!

Happy and safe travels!
